What this dataset contains

The dataset holds roughly 456,224 training rows derived from ClinicalTrials.gov, presented as a single Parquet split. Each record pairs a filename identifier with the underlying XML markup and a plain-text rendering of the clinical study, allowing downstream consumers to work with either the structured source or the flattened prose. The corpus size falls in the 100K–1M range and is tagged as a text dataset.

Structure and fields

Three string-valued columns are exposed through the Hugging Face datasets, dask, mlcroissant, and polars integrations: filename, which names the source file; xml, which holds the raw clinical-study XML conforming to the official schema; and text, which provides a narrative extraction from the same record. Sample rows show XML headers beginning with `<clinical_study>` alongside plain-English descriptions such as references to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

How analysts use it

Healthcare-focused investors can use the dataset to screen trial registries at scale, extracting indications, sponsors, or study designs from the xml field or from the text column for natural-language processing. Because the records are pre-extracted from public filings, the resource is suited for building NLP models that classify trial phase, therapeutic area, or recruitment status, which can then feed proprietary pipelines tracking clinical catalysts. No download totals, license, or publisher-level guarantees are stated in the source metadata.
