What this dataset contains

The dataset mirrors the SEC's XBRL company-facts API, consolidating tagged line items reported in forms such as 10-Q across hundreds of millions of rows. Each record captures a discrete financial fact disclosed by a filer, with a textual value in val_text and a high-precision numeric in val_dec, both labeled with a reporting unit such as shares or USD. Coverage spans a wide range of fiscal periods and frame codes used by EDGAR to identify instant and duration facts.

Structure and fields

Rows are keyed by the period end date (end) and SEC accession number (accn), with fiscal year (fy), fiscal period (fp), filing form (form), filed date (filed), and EDGAR frame (frame) attached as identifiers. The accounting concept is given by label (e.g., Entity Common Stock, Shares Outstanding) and description, while unit carries the reported measurement unit and val_text and val_dec hold the disclosed value. A source_folder string indicates the originating EDGAR filing folder.

How analysts use it

Analysts can filter on form, fp, and label to assemble point-in-time share counts, earnings, or balance-sheet items for systematic factor or event studies. The combination of end, accn, and frame supports backtests that match reported facts to the as-of date a filing became public. Because the publisher does not state a license, downstream use should be cleared against the underlying SEC terms before commercial distribution.
