Dataset card
The us_patent_hub dataset, published by Factored on the Hugging Face Hub, aggregates U.S. patent text and classification metadata into a single text corpus of roughly 130,000 rows. It is distributed as a Parquet file with no explicit license declaration and is intended for machine learning workflows involving natural language processing of patent content.
What this dataset contains
us_patent_hub is a text corpus of U.S. patent records stored in Parquet format under the train split, comprising 130,164 rows. Each row carries a free-text description, a free-text abstract, and a Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) code stored as an integer. The dataset is tagged as having between 100,000 and 1 million rows and is designed for use with common Python data and ML libraries including datasets, Dask, MLCroissant, and Polars.
Structure and fields
The schema is narrow, with three columns. The description and abstract columns are both stored as string values and contain the natural-language text of each patent's description and abstract. The cpc column is stored as an int64 and encodes the Cooperative Patent Classification identifier. Sample rows illustrate the format, with one example listing a CPC value of 0 alongside an abstract about a protective suit for dogs and another with a CPC value of 6 describing networked sensor groups.
How analysts use it
Because the data is plain patent text paired with numeric classification codes, the most natural applications are supervised NLP tasks such as CPC code prediction from abstract or description text, patent similarity search, and topic clustering. Investment analysts could screen the corpus for trends in patenting activity across technology categories, monitor filings by specific CPC codes relevant to a sector, or use the text to build signal inputs for thematic investment theses around emerging technologies.
