Dataset card

SEC_filings_1994_2024 is a tabular index of every submission filed through the SEC EDGAR system between 1994 and December 14, 2024. It is distributed as parquet files on the Hugging Face Hub under an unstated license.

What this dataset contains

The dataset provides one row per EDGAR submission, drawn from the quarterly master index files released by the SEC. The single training split holds 24,943,448 rows, and the underlying index covers 734 distinct form_type values. Coverage is restricted to metadata rather than the body text of the filings themselves.

Structure and fields

Each row carries an _id, a timestamp, cik, company_name, form_type, date_filed, filename, url, quarter, year, an idx_type marker (such as 'master'), and a nested master_metadata dictionary. Columns are typed as strings for identifiers and int64 for quarter and year, with date and timestamp fields stored as timestamp[s]. Filename paths are 37-43 characters long and link to documents under www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/.

How analysts use it

Researchers can filter by cik, form_type, or year to study filing frequency, form-type mix, or submission timing across the universe of SEC registrants. Investment analysts may use it to backtests event-driven strategies, monitor disclosure volume by sector, or build universes of filings for downstream natural language processing. Because the index only points to documents, any text-based analysis requires a second pass to fetch the referenced filings from EDGAR.
