What this dataset contains
The dataset holds patent publication records, with the train split comprising 166,866,499 rows. Records appear to cover multiple jurisdictions, as suggested by the masked sample publication numbers prefixed with country codes such as DE. Because the schema exposes fields like family_id and pct_number alongside localized text fields, the collection appears to include both national-stage publications and Patent Cooperation Treaty filings, as well as the full text and metadata of patents.
Structure and fields
Each row is keyed by publication_number (string) and carries application-level metadata including application_number, application_number_formatted, country_code, kind_code, application_kind, pct_number, family_id, and the spif_publication_number and spif_application_number fields. Date information is provided through integer-typed publication_date, filing_date, grant_date, and priority_date columns, with priority_claim linking to earlier publications. Textual content is stored in localized fields for title_localized, abstract_localized, claims_localized, claims_localized_html, description_localized, and description_localized_html, and persons and entities are captured in the inventor, inventor_harmonized, assignee, assignee_harmonized, and examiner arrays. Classification coverage is represented by uspc, ipc, cpc, and fi code arrays.
How analysts use it
Investment teams focused on intellectual property analytics can use assignee_harmonized and inventor_harmonized to track corporate and individual inventors, while cpc and ipc codes support technology-area mapping and trend monitoring. Filing and grant dates enable vintage analysis of innovation cycles, and family_id plus priority_claim support cross-jurisdictional patent family analysis for competitive intelligence. Given the public-records nature of the underlying filings, the dataset is suitable for constructing signals such as grant acceleration, geographic filing mix, or assignor concentration that may inform thematic and single-name equity research.
