Dataset card

The CRUDE_OIL_PRICES dataset, published by MaxPrestige on the Hugging Face Hub, aggregates U.S. and global crude oil price and trade-flow series from public sources such as the EIA. It spans roughly 6,364 daily rows from September 2000 through June 2025 and is delivered as a single CSV file licensed under Apache-2.0.

What this dataset contains

The file combines a daily crude oil price series, expressed in dollars per barrel, with monthly U.S. first-purchase prices and bilateral import, export and net-import volumes for selected partner countries. Country-specific series cover Canada, Colombia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and OPEC versus non-OPEC aggregates, alongside California and Texas regional first-purchase benchmarks. According to the publisher, underlying figures are drawn from eia.gov and other public market sources, and the dataset is tagged for reinforcement-learning tasks.

Structure and fields

The schema is a single tabular CSV with one row per trading day. The first five columns are Date, Open, Close, High and Low, all numeric except for the string-typed Date field. The remaining float64 columns carry regional and trade-flow metrics, including California_Crude_Oil_First_Purchase_Price_$/bbl, Texas_Crude_Oil_First_Purchase_Price_$/bbl, US_Crude_Oil_First_Purchase_Price_$/bbl, US_Imports_from_OPEC_Countries_of_Crude_Oil_Mbbl/d, US_Net_Imports_of_Crude_Oil_Mbbl/d and similarly named series for Canada, Colombia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the non-OPEC bloc.

How analysts use it

Commodities and macro desks can use the OHLC fields to back-test price models or study intraday-range behaviour, while pairing US_Crude_Oil_First_Purchase_Price_$/bbl with regional California and Texas series to track domestic basis differentials. Energy-sector analysts can monitor shifts in US_Imports_from_OPEC_Countries_of_Crude_Oil_Mbbl/d against US_Imports_from_Non-OPEC_Countries_of_Crude_Oil_Mbbl/d to gauge supplier-mix changes, and the net-import series to flag tightening or loosening trade balances relevant to refiners and integrated oils.
