What this dataset contains
Each row represents a single patent publication with identifiers such as publication_number, application_number, country_code, kind_code, and family_id, alongside filing, publication, grant, and priority dates stored as integers. Localized text fields include title_localized, abstract_localized, claims_localized, description_localized, and HTML-rendered variants, while structured fields capture inventor, assignee, examiner, and classification codes under uspc, ipc, cpc, and fi.
Structure and fields
The dataset is delivered as a single train split of 340,757 tabular rows in Parquet, with a row count between 100,000 and 1,000,000. All schema fields are typed as strings, including the nested arrays for priority_claim, inventor, inventor_harmonized, assignee, assignee_harmonized, examiner, and the four classification code lists. Key date fields such as publication_date, filing_date, grant_date, and priority_date are stored as int64, and the file is consumable through the datasets, dask, polars, and mlcroissant libraries.
How analysts use it
Analysts can join country_code and assignee_harmonized to track where specific companies are filing, then monitor growth in cpc or ipc code families to gauge technology diffusion. Trends in publication_date and family_id can flag active R&D programs, while inventor_harmonized supports talent-flow studies across firms. For investment work, the file offers a patent-level input for thematic screens of filings, assignees, and jurisdictions rather than a finished signals product.
