Dataset card
sec-edgar-scraper is a Hugging Face dataset that mirrors a subset of SEC EDGAR filings, returning one structured row per observation produced by a live collector run. It is released by publisher reapxdev under a CC BY 4.0 license and totals 2,691 rows in the train split.
What this dataset contains
Each row corresponds to a single filing observed by a collector run against the public SEC EDGAR system, covering companies identified by ticker, CIK, or SIC industry code. The publisher states that every row was returned by a real collector execution rather than generated from a template, and provenance metadata is preserved via the _run_id and _dataset_id fields. A 771-entity subset with an addressable cik is also browsable as entity pages, while this dataset additionally includes rows lacking a page-addressable field.
Structure and fields
Records are formatted as JSON with string, timestamp, boolean, integer, and nested JSON value types. Core identifier columns include cik, companyName, ticker, exchange, sic, sicDescription, stateOfIncorporation, fiscalYearEnd, and entityType, while filing metadata is captured in accessionNumber, formType, filingDate, reportDate, acceptanceDateTime, items, fileNumber, sizeBytes, isXBRL, primaryDocument, primaryDocDescription, filingIndexUrl, and documentUrl. The matchedFullTextQuery and retrievedAt fields record the query and retrieval time, and a nested financials column optionally carries XBRL payload data.
How analysts use it
Analysts can filter on formType, sic, or ticker to monitor specific filing categories or sectors, then use accessionNumber, primaryDocument, and documentUrl to retrieve the original source documents for further review. The financials JSON field supports direct ingestion of XBRL data into pandas or polars for downstream analysis, while _run_id enables reproducibility checks across collector runs. Plausible investment-fund applications include tracking Schedule 13D/13G activity for ownership signals, building event-driven datasets around 8-K filings, and enriching internal issuer rosters with stateOfIncorporation and fiscalYearEnd attributes.
