What this dataset contains
The file reproduces a slice of ClinicalTrials.gov, the U.S. registry of clinical studies, capturing summary-level metadata rather than full protocol documents. The training split contains 3,002 rows, and size tags indicate it falls in the 1K–10K row range. Because it is published by a third party and the license is marked as unstated, downstream users should verify redistribution terms with the original source.
Structure and fields
Records are stored as Parquet with six columns. idd holds the NCT identifier as a string, status captures recruitment state such as "Not yet recruiting", and brief_summary and eligibility contain free-text protocol descriptions. title carries the public study name, while date_of_extraction records when the row was collected. All string fields are loaded via the datasets library and the date column is stored as date32, making the table straightforward to query with pandas or polars.
How analysts use it
For healthcare and biotech investors, the dataset offers a compact sample for tracking the pipeline of registered trials, screening eligibility text for therapeutic-area keywords, or building lightweight NLP features around study design. It is too small and too lightly licensed for production surveillance, but useful as a teaching corpus or as a seed set for matching ClinicalTrials.gov records against company-disclosed R&D programs.
