Dataset card
This Hugging Face dataset, published by winterForestStump, collects approximately 93,500 parsed 10-K filings sourced from SEC EDGAR and dated from 1999 onward. The publisher notes that the corpus contains a number of badly parsed filings and empty rows.
What this dataset contains
The file aggregates annual 10-K reports filed by publicly listed companies with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, broken into the standard 10-K item sections. Each row pairs a filer's Central Index Key (cik) and company_name with a filing_date timestamp, allowing chronological tracking of disclosures across issuers. Because the dataset is an extract of EDGAR's public filings, its underlying content is publicly available, although the redistributor's license is unstated.
Structure and fields
Records are stored in a tabular format with one row per filing and string-typed text fields for each item, including Risk Factors, Properties, Legal Proceedings, Selected Financial Data, Management's Discussion and Analysis of Financial Condition and Results of Operations, Financial Statements and Supplementary Data, Executive Compensation, Security Ownership of Certain Beneficial Owners and Management, and Principal Accountant Fees and Services. The cik column is int64 and filing_date is a timestamp, while the descriptive sections such as Business and Unresolved Staff Comments are stored as raw text suitable for natural-language processing.
How analysts use it
Long-horizon quantitative and NLP researchers can use the cik and company_name keys to join filings to fundamentals, while the Risk Factors, MD&A, and Legal Proceedings fields provide rich text for sentiment, litigation, or disclosure-tone studies. Given the publisher's caveat about parsing quality, any signal extracted should be validated against the original EDGAR source before being used in an investment workflow.
