Dataset card
The Clinical Trials & Drug Approvals dataset from publisher zalizedata aggregates 635,000-plus registered clinical trials alongside a pharma-intelligence pack of roughly 1.06 million rows that link those trials to FDA drug approvals. It is distributed as native Parquet under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license for academic and personal use.
What this dataset contains
The package bundles curated slices of ClinicalTrials.gov registry records with official FDA datasets, packaged under the DataForge Open Data program. Four table configurations are exposed: `drug_ndc`, `drug_products`, `pipeline_view`, and `trials`, with the published `drug_ndc` split holding 1,058,262 rows. A full data dictionary, datasheet, and per-tier slices are provided inside the package zips.
Structure and fields
The `drug_ndc` configuration carries drug-product identifiers and metadata such as `ndc_record_id`, `product_ndc`, `application_number`, `brand_name`, and `generic_name`. Therapeutic and packaging context is captured through `dosage_form`, `routes`, `product_type`, `marketing_category`, `marketing_start_date`, `marketing_end_date`, `is_marketed`, and `package_count`. Codes and classification are exposed via `pharm_classes`, `rxcui`, `unii`, `labeler_name`, `labeler_name_normalized`, `labeler_group`, and `country_code`, with `_source_url` and `_collected_at` documenting provenance.
How analysts use it
Pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare-focused investment analysts can map trial and approval entities to branded and generic products using `brand_name`, `generic_name`, and `application_number`. Sponsorship and commercialization signals such as `labeler_name`, `labeler_group`, `marketing_category`, and `is_marketed` support company-level competitive analysis of approved drug portfolios. Because the data is CC BY-NC 4.0 and restricted to academic and personal use, commercial fund workflows should confirm licensing terms before deploying it in production pipelines.
