GlobalData

From AltData.wiki, The Alternative Data Encyclopedia

GlobalData is a data analytics and consulting company headquartered in London, England.[2] The company provides industry intelligence covering sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, technology, consumer, retail, energy, mining, construction, and defense, delivered through a subscription research platform that combines proprietary datasets, analyst research, and AI tools.[1]

Listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker DATA and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index, GlobalData reported revenue of £322.1 million for 2025.[2] Its workflow solutions span strategic, market, sales, competitive, deals, and innovation intelligence, alongside custom consulting and direct data feeds.[1]

What It Does

GlobalData aggregates company, deal, market, patent, hiring, social media, and news data across more than twenty industry verticals and standardizes it against a common taxonomy. Analysts convert this into market sizing, forecasts, thematic research on disruptive trends, and company profiles that clients use for strategic planning, sales prospecting, and competitive monitoring.[1][2]

The company positions its offering around six workflow solutions: strategic intelligence for identifying disruptive themes, market intelligence for prioritizing opportunities, sales intelligence for pipeline generation, competitive intelligence for tracking rivals, deals intelligence for M&A workflows, and innovation intelligence covering patents, startups, and new technologies. Custom consulting engagements and API-based direct data delivery complement the subscription products.[1]

Data and Methodology

The platform blends proprietary data sourced and enriched in-house with expert analysis from what the company describes as a community of around 2,000 in-house subject matter experts across industries.[1] Research follows a documented process from sourcing through enrichment, with bottom-up market analysis at granular segment level rather than top-down estimates alone.[1]

An AI layer underpins the platform: predictive analytics forecast market performance, and generative tools including the Ava digital worker are designed to answer research questions using the company's curated content library. The company emphasizes transparency and reliability in how its AI is built and applied.[1]

Products

The core product is a single-subscription intelligence platform offering precision search, configurable dashboards, a corporate, market, and financial data library, predictive analytics, and presentation-ready visualizations.[1]

Industry Intelligence Centers provide vertical coverage across value chains, including dedicated healthcare, pharmaceutical, and medical devices centers alongside aerospace, agribusiness, automotive, banking and payments, construction, consumer, insurance, mining, oil and gas, power, retail, sport, technology, and travel.[1]

Supplementary offerings include Direct Data Solutions for embedding data via APIs and feeds, custom solutions built with in-house consultants, and the DECODED newsletter family of curated industry updates distributed free of charge.[1]

Delivery and Pricing

Content is delivered through web-based subscriptions with named logins, configurable tools, and enterprise integrations via data feeds and APIs. Pricing is not published publicly; contracts are typically annual enterprise licenses scoped by industry coverage, seats, and solution modules.[1]

The company also generates reach through free newsletters, webinars, case studies, and media distribution of analyst commentary, which feed its subscription funnel.[1]

Buyers and Use Cases

Customers include large corporates, consultancies, and financial institutions; the company cites organizations such as Nestlé, Bain & Company, Deloitte, AstraZeneca, Vodafone, Orange, Aon, Deutsche Telekom, Hitachi Energy, Tetra Pak, and Samsung Biologics among users of its platform.[1]

Typical use cases include identifying disruptive themes early, sizing and forecasting markets before entry or investment, building target account lists for sales teams, monitoring competitor moves and deals, screening innovation such as patents and startups, and automating deal workflows from shortlist to completion.[1]

History

The company traces its origins to TheMutual.net, a London-based online marketing and business information services provider founded in 1999 and listed on the Alternative Investment Market in 2000. It was renamed TMN Group in December 2006.[2]

In 2009 TMN was acquired through a reverse takeover by Progressive Digital Media, founded in 2007 by former Datamonitor chief executive Mike Danson, becoming Progressive Digital Media Group. The group acquired Current Analysis in 2014 and in July 2015 agreed to buy the Datamonitor Financial, Datamonitor Consumer, MarketLine, and Verdict businesses from Informa for £25 million.[2]

In January 2016 Progressive Digital Media purchased the GlobalData Holding business and adopted the GlobalData Plc name.[2] It acquired entertainment publisher Media Business Insight, including Broadcast and Screen International, in June 2022,[4] and moved from the Alternative Investment Market to the main market of the London Stock Exchange in March 2026.[3]

Mike Danson serves as chief executive and Murray Legg as chairman.[2]
