Tipranks

From AltData.wiki, The Alternative Data Encyclopedia

TipRanks is a Tel Aviv-based financial technology company that uses artificial intelligence to analyze financial big data and deliver stock market research tools for retail investors. Its Financial Accountability Engine scans financial websites, SEC filings, and analyst ratings to track and rank the real-time performance of financial experts, including sell-side analysts, financial bloggers, corporate insiders, hedge fund managers, and individual investors.[2][3].

The platform aggregates alternative data such as analyst ratings, financial blogger opinions, insider transactions, and company risk factors into free and paid research products, including its composite Smart Score stock rating. TipRanks tools are embedded in the platforms of banks and brokers such as E-Trade, TD Ameritrade, eToro, Santander, Interactive Brokers, CIBC, Questrade, Futu, and Nasdaq.com.[2]

What It Does

TipRanks' central proposition is accountability: measuring the historical accuracy of anyone who publishes investment recommendations and surfacing those track records to retail investors under the banner of knowing "who to trust."[1][2] Its data covers U.S., Canadian, UK, Australian, and German markets.[2]

Beyond analyst and insider rankings, the company has extended into adjacent alternative datasets, launching a tool that presents risk factors of publicly traded companies and an estimated website traffic analysis feature in 2021.[2]

Products

Consumer offerings include a website and mobile app with free and premium subscription tiers. Core data products include aggregated analyst ratings, financial blogger opinions, insider trading screens, risk factor analysis, and the Smart Score, a composite stock score combining multiple data dimensions.[2]

The company also publishes annual "Top Analysts" rankings for the US, Canada, and UK markets, which have been cited by media outlets such as CNBC and The Globe and Mail.[2]

Buyers And Use Cases

Primary users are retail investors conducting stock research, but TipRanks data also flows into institutional and media channels. Banks and brokers including Bank Hapoalim, which launched a TipRanks-powered service for customers trading US stocks in 2014, license the technology for their own platforms.[2]

Journalists use the data in market reporting: Bloomberg cited TipRanks insider trading data in a 2021 feature on stock market practices, and The Telegraph began using TipRanks data in its investment reporting in 2020.[2]

History

TipRanks was founded in June 2012 by Uri Gruenbaum and Gilad Gat, who teamed up with Roni Michaely, a finance professor at Cornell University. It launched initially as a browser extension in a freemium model, and in 2013 released its first service, the Financial Accountability Engine, winning Finovate Best of Show awards in both spring and fall 2013.[2]

In 2014, former New York governor Eliot Spitzer invested in the company and joined its board. TipRanks won the IBM Watson Hackathon in Israel in 2015 and was named an Emerging Star in the KPMG and H2 Ventures Fintech 100 list in 2016. Market coverage expanded to Canada in 2018 and the UK in 2020, followed by country-specific websites for the UK, Canada, and Australia in 2022.[2]

In April 2021, the company announced a USD 77 million venture funding round led by Prytek.[2]
